OLCDC hosts 2015 Summer Math & Robotics Camp

From July 7 through July 31, OLCDC and partners conducted a free Summer Camp for middle school students, combining exciting robotics with a fun focus on preparation for the mathematics sections of the FSA.

Students attended daily classes in mathematics; enjoyed hands-on robotics and coding activities; participated in weekly field trips; learned about careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics; and talked with inspirational guest speakers.

OLCDC & partners teach about the environment at Magnolia North Park

On July 8, 2015, Citizens for a Better South Florida and OLCDC presented a special environmental education program at Magnolia North Park. Participants learned about native plants, wildlife, conservation and sustainability through hands-on and experiential activities.

OLCDC wins KaBOOM grant to build playground at Park City Apartments

OLCDC has been selected to create a new play space at our Park City Apartments, 845 NW 155 Lane, Miami, FL 33169. OLCDC, the CarMax Foundation and other partners will design and build the space to provide a safe and engaging place for resident children to play.

This grant is OLCDC's second from KaBOOM. OLCDC used the first grant to build the Magnolia North Community Park in early 2014, the first park ever built in Magnolia North.

OLCDC and partners present META 5 & new art exhibit @ the ARC

On June 28, 2015, OLCDC and partners presented the 5th edition of META. The event served as the opening reception for a new exhibition in honor of Caribbean Heritage Month: "Islas: Contemporary Caribbean Visions," which will display @ the ARC thorugh July 22nd.

OLCDC wins 2015 Community Grant for Magnolia North Park!

OLCDC received a $20,000.00 grant from the Miami Foundation to increase fitness and health for Opa-locka residents. The grant will enable OLCDC to install outdoor fitness machines at Magnolia North Community Park, which was built by OLCDC and community volunteers in 2014 and to hire trainers who will come twice weekly to work with residents at the park.
