Position Title: Director of the Arts Foundation
Classification: Exempt
Reports to: CEO and the Vice President of Program and Strategy
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Greater Opa-Locka Arts and Cultural Foundation, a subsidiary of Ten North Group (formerly Opa-Locka Community Development Corporation), is seeking an Art Director to manage and provide overall leadership, strategy, and stewardship of its Arts Programs.
The Arts Director is responsible for providing leadership and growth to The Greater Opa-Locka Arts and Cultural Foundation in furthering the organization’s African and African Diaspora Arts initiatives. The Director will be responsible for leading, executing, and securing the necessary resources, partnerships, and artistic relationships in becoming both a national and region’s arts and cultural destination working in partnerships with African nations. He/she will be primarily responsible for serving all installations of art in the public realm. Oversee execution of major art installations and art collection by proactively interacting with the artist team, government officials, staff, and others whose timely participation is required. Our goal is not to limit the Arts Foundation to just the city of Opa- Locka, but also to consider working with any other cities and institutions who may also be interested in furthering the Arts in their community.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with the Executive Team in implementing its strategic vision for the organization through the development and implementation of a multi-year strategic plan that supports a national and international focus.

Develop, direct, and lead a team to achieve the priorities specified in the 5-year plan.

Work with foundations, corporations, financial institutions and interested donors on creative approaches to grow the foundation and its capacity.

Take the lead in annually developing several major initiatives at any given time. Set priorities, coordinating with others when appropriate, to devote sufficient attention to major initiatives.

Take the lead in developing, promoting and executing the African and African Diaspora art collections and exhibitions.

Work closely with curators on the planning and development of exhibitions every year.

Facilitate public art installations within our residential developments.

Take the lead as well as participate in attracting public and philanthropic funds to support all arts initiatives, which include public art installations, community arts programming, exhibits performance events, residencies and artist housing. Contribute to the writing of proposals and progress reports for donors.

Oversee the quality of proposals are produced with enough time to meet grant deadlines.

Maintain relationships with donors, keeping them informed about the projects they are supporting or sponsoring.

Maintain an updated summary of major and minor public art projects and programs, together with
potential funding sources, cost ranges, and timeline.

Work with the Executive team to develop strategies for approaching potential donors for their support.

Maintain electronic files of standard information, project blurbs, financial data, bios, etc.

Hold regular team coordination meetings, with follow-up assignments clearly articulated.

Draft written descriptions of artists’ deliverables (including in-process reviews and status reports) to include in Ten North contracts with them; prepare and monitor budgets for art installations that take into consideration all costs for artwork, site preparation, and installation.

Convene regular meetings of key players seeking to identify early in the process any needs for additional information, permissions, permits, and to assure coordination of in-kind services provided by municipalities.

Establish and maintain frequent and effective communication between Ten North Group, contracted artists, and others involved in site preparation and installation. Identify issues well in advance of their becoming problems and find a solution or bring to the attention of the CEO or CFOO if a resolution requires their participation.

Understand and keep track of several major initiatives that are underway at any given time. Set priorities to devote sufficient attention to major initiatives.

Stay on top of artist contracts, invoicing, and prompt payment, assuring that invoices are paid promptly.

Assure financial reporting requirements for grants are met in a timely and accurate manner.

Coordinate with the board and executive team the managing and promoting of the African and African Diaspora art collection.

Ensure the storage and security of Ten North Group’s entire art collection.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating public art exhibitions or installations.

Minimum bachelor’s degree in architecture, planning, design, engineering, arts management, or related field; with at least five years’ project management experience in the art field.

Experience and knowledge working in the field of African and African Diaspora.

Self-starter, a team leader who can cross disciplines, facilitates collaboration.

Highly organized, motivated to achieve results.

Innovative problem-solver, able to work independently but with a mature judgment about when and how-to bring issues to the attention of CFO, CEO.

Team experience facilitating and leading successful projects with tangible results.

Demonstrated commitment to working in low-income communities and advancing African Diaspora Art.
