Position Title: Vice President, Program, Strategy and External Affairs

Classification: Exempt

Reports To: President/CEO

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President will have overall strategic and operational responsibilities for integrating all programs and affiliates within OLCDC Corporate structure working closely with staff, board members and consultants. The position will be a part of the Executive management team that drives the overall strategy for the organization.    

 

The Vice President will be responsible for providing oversight and support to the senior leadership of the following programs: Family Services, the Financial Empowerment Center, and the Arts Foundation, building their capacity to manage and grow their programs.

 

 

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership, Strategic Planning and Management

  • Enhance, flesh out, and execute OLCDC’s organizational vision as established in its Strategic Plan. Lead day-to-day development and execution of the OLCDC’s strategic direction utilizing an annual planning process that supports all of OLCDC’s affiliates and subsidiaries.

  • Lead the creation of the annual operational plan, support the team in the creation of program plans and budgets, coach staff and teams toward successful outcomes.

  • Develop the systems, processes, and tools to better support the facilitation, collection, and sharing of knowledge that is generated by the programs and affiliates consistent with its strategic vision.

  • Work with staff to develop systems to ensure consistent, high-quality project management. Strengthen data, evaluation, and accountability systems to build a culture of results-based leadership.

  • Work collaboratively with the managers to integrate cross program activities and functions and to support a talented workforce.

  • Take the lead in building a workplace culture that supports annual retreats, social interactions, cross training and team building.

  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control, and performance.

  • Foster teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and accountability among affiliates.

  • Develop and inspire a diverse programs team, maximizing individual talents in support of our mission while maintaining a focus on strategy.

External Affairs, Fund Development and Policy Work

  • Working with consultants and management team to implement an annual communication strategy for the organization focused on strengthening awareness of the distinct and positive identity of OLCDC and its related entities.

  • Implement branding strategy for the corporation, to include a new brand identity for the organization and its affiliates working with consultants.

  • Collaborate with the executive team and consultants to develop executive visibility opportunities for external media, speaking opportunities, op-eds, and thought leadership opportunities.

  • Collaborate with department managers and related entities to support programmatic work, including driving attendance, reaching community members, educating residents, and planning events.

  • Work with managers in securing both funding support from both the public and private sectors and earned income opportunities.

  • Build and foster long-term working relationships with various groups, including media, community members, public relations offices, client marketing teams, key business, and media sources, influencers, thought leaders, funders, and other organization. 

  • Support and develop regional, state, and national partnerships that leverage public and private resources to deepen and accelerate impact among programs and affiliates.

  • Act as a liaison for governmental affairs on behalf of the CEO.

  • Provide staff support to the CEO on policy initiatives and efforts related to economic development.

  • Prepare or oversee projects which support the organization’s advocacy platform and initiatives.

  • Represent the organization’s interests at public meetings and forums as applicable to the adoption and enactment of public policies by local, regional, and federal governmental bodies.

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist CEO with outside relationships, boards and committees to further the business mission of the organization.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required; Master’s in business and/or community development preferred.

  • Minimum of ten years of experience preferably in the community development field, the majority in a senior role managing major aspects of the organization.

  • Minimum of 5 years of project management and supervisory experience, able to supervise staff and build a strong team.

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives and manage budgets.

  • Ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders including advisory groups, coalitions, forums, trade associations, foundations, corporate sponsors, and practitioner groups.

  • Ability to raise funds working with staff to support their programs and new initiatives.

  • Experience working in advancing marketing strategies.

  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

  • Background in either strategic planning or business planning.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, interpersonal skills and good judgment.

  • Solid experience supervising senior staff and working collaboratively in a management team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple tasks; work well independently; prioritize and meet specific deadlines.

  • Good networking, relationship management, and customer skills.

  • High proficiency in MS Office Excel, Word, and related software products.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Must be comfortable with working in a mission-driven, multicultural work environment,

  • Background in real estate development is a plus.

  • Willing to relocate to the South Florida region.

  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
