Black power art comes to Opa-locka

The Opa-Locka Community Development Corporation last week unveiled a new piece of art that recalls t he Black power sentiment echoed in the 1960s and 1970s.

The sculpture by renowned artist Hank Willis Thomas' sculpture rests near the Town Center Apartments, 420 Aladdin St. in Opa-locka. The piece is a black afro pick called "All Power to All People." The larger-than-life artwork is eight feet high and weighs 800 pounds. At the top is a clenched fist which Thomas said symbolizes resistance.
